The Red Knight, stairway, Aix-en-Provence, France
This stairway is located right between two very conceptual fields (design and architecture), right at the point where the scale blurs all distinction between object and space. This project proposes an alternative way.
It grasps the site as an anchor, and uses the context like a man would do: with its bones and skin. It fights the past in order to affirm its own identity; fights the fixed symmetry of the existing house, and destabilizes it, like an elegant parasite, With its best weapons in hand, this knight is on a crusade through new territories, and sings to whoever wants to listen, his own partition of time.
